1、大概情况:
最近,我的电脑开机时会非常偶然地出现这个问题,开机时出现 "Timed out waiting for device /dev/sdb..." 这样的日志,然后就启动失败进 Emergency Shell。
我的系统上的存储配置是两块硬盘,一块 SSD(/dev/sda) 和一块 HDD(/dev/sdb),系统的主体部分在 sda 上,sdb 主要用途是用来存放一些需要长期保存的静态资源,比如音乐、视频、文档、代码之类的。
为此,我给这块机械盘的两个主要分区配了目录 /hdd0 和 /hdd1 然后以软链接的形式将其空间分发到系统各处,平时应该读取占多数,写入量相对 sda 来说是非常少的。
这次的问题仅仅出现在 sdb 上,看起来非常偶然。这块硬盘是我在 2016 年组装这台电脑的时候买的,用到现在有三年多了,我第一次碰到这个问题是大概 1 个多月之前,第二次就是今天。

2、细节:
这块出问题的 HDD 是 1TB 的西数蓝盘,2016 年在京东上买的,分区表是 GPT,两个主要分区的文件系统都是 EXT4。
由于这个问题是偶然出现的,所以我两次都以重启的方式解决了这个问题并进入了系统。

你往上翻一翻,应该可以找到更多日志。这里的日志是结果,等待超时。那么在还没有超时的时候,是不是发生了什么呢?
另外你可以考虑一下 automount。如果你用 fstab 的话加上 noauto,x-systemd.automount 选项。这样在实际访问的时候才挂载,就不会因为挂载失败导致进入紧急模式了。

我没看明白为什么 systemd 那里会超时,不过看内核的日志,磁盘应该是没啥问题的。
我也很困惑,我之前经历过一次硬盘即将损坏的情况,那次我是找到了明显的错误日志的,网上查证了之后就把硬盘换了。
但是这次没有明显的错误日志,而且我两块盘里面只有一块盘出现这个情况,很奇怪。
如果只看现象的话,给人的感觉就好像是这块 HDD 就快要坏掉了,然而 HDD 通常比 SSD 耐用一些,尤其是在台式机上,不会有像笔记本那样震动受损之类的情况。

只要不摔它,HDD 比 SSD 耐用很多的。你这没有内核报错只有 systemd 报错,大概率只是软件问题。
你可以先不开机就挂载,等开完机后手动挂载,看看情况如何,会不会遇到什么报错之类的。
另外我看到了 lvm 字样,是不是那几个 lvm 的服务在作祟呢?

但是这个问题很难重现啊,我用了三年,总共碰到两次,这两次的时间间隔长达一个多月。这个确实是个排查手段,我晚点尝试一下。

的确,然而我并没有在用 LVM,至少我没有主动地为我的磁盘配置过逻辑卷,我的磁盘全都是简单地做一下 GPT 分区表,然后直接直接 mkfs 的。

但是,就我这种分区做法,磁盘会受到 LVM 服务的影响吗?
以我的粗浅理解来看,LVM 是逻辑卷管理系统,在我完全没有使用逻辑卷的情况下,LVM 相关的服务没有理由会影响到物理卷。

也许真的是 LVM 的问题耶,我搜一下 "systemd lvm2 metadata socket" 找到了一些 lvmetad 导致系统 delay 的例子。
并不是 LVM 影响到了内核与磁盘本身,而似乎是 lvm2-lvmetad.service 导致了 systemd 的 delay

lvm 的这些服务曾经造成过一些问题的。你不用的话可以 mask 掉相关服务(systemctl mask xxx)。
那个 socket 应该是 lvm2-lvmetad.socket。按理说只是监听个套接字不会出啥问题的呀。

我目前把原先 enabled 的 LVM 相关的 service 和 socket 都 mask 掉了,
包括 lvm2-lvmetad.service, lvm2-lvmetad.socket, lvm2-lvmpolld.socket, lvm2-monitor.service, lvm2-monitor.socket。hmmm,反正我也不用,开着也是浪费资源。
感觉目前暂时找不到什么线索了,也许需要观察很长很长一段时间,也可能这个问题再也不会出现了 -_-#

问题重现了,目前可以确认和 LVM 服务无关,所有 LVM 相关服务皆已 masked,问题原因仍然不明。

另外,我目前没有采用 automount 在使用时挂载分区的 debug 方式,因为我的 sdb 中有一小部分文件需要在启动时就挂载到系统的目录树上,这些文件的缺失会影响到我的桌面的使用。

你根本没有 sdb4 啊。你有的只是 sda4 啊。
你是不是该换用 LABEL、PARTLABEL、UUID 或者 PARTUUID 来指定挂载项了?

啊,失败了呐,我写的 /etc/udev/rules.d/*.rules udev 完全无视欸,我就是算是故意写一个带有语法错误的 .rules 文件然后 udevadm control --reload 它也不会说我语法错误,log level 都改成 debug 了 journal 里面还是没有 udev 的日志,就好像我根本没有在用 udev 一样的。按照 wiki 上的说法,应该是我写一个 .rules 文件放在那里它应该就会自己去读了,然而并没有,好奇怪。
Anyway,这个帖子的主要问题解决了。虽然没有能够配成功自己命名的块文件或是软链接,但是还是可以用 /dev/disk 里面的现成的东西。
